Prioritizing
I had a very important moment last week while my son was napping, I set up in the backyard with my watercolors and painted. This is only possible when I prepare weeks in advance. It seems I must pine over it for days, wishing I had a spare moment in between loads of laundry, dirty dishes, dinner preparation, knitting, photography or writing. All of this longing will eventually climax into a priority. I'll flag it in my head as if I wrote it on the calendar: I will paint on Friday.
P.S. I also added a new blue water colored badge on the side bar. Instagram seems to be stealing my heart, sorry Facebook.
Hoping she'd remember forever
It's a dreamy piece in homage to the day she learned to ride. That night she didn't want to go to sleep because she was afraid she would forget how. When she awoke the next morning she said she rode all night . . . hoping she'd remember forever.
It's funny how the practice of blogging is working for me. Here we have an abandoned piece of art that lie dormant for months, until this morning. I wanted to post a painting for today's post, which meant I had to paint. I looked at what I had cast aside and decided to take on the challenge of trying to make it look as I see it in my mind. It's not there yet, it's till in process, it's getting there. However, I feel safe enough to be vulnerable here, make mistakes, throw caution to the wind, write a poem, work on a project that feels frustrating and be held accountable because I know some of you are reading. It's not just my Mom and my sister! All of this would never have been possible a few months ago. On a chilly day just like today when it's 46 degrees and cloudy, I would not have had any reason to keep trying. Thank you for being there reading.
A little reminder
The way I was speaking to my daughter today was neither of these so I made myself a little reminder.

I am in the process of adding them to my Etsy shop.
Let me know if you'd like one too.
Side by side
She was home sick today. We wheeled her new bike into the living room and worked on our bike portraits side by side on the couch. Her feverish sweetness made painting and drawing the perfect quiet thing to do together.
You'll never forget
She learned how to ride a bike last week before our trip. It's been on her mind ever since. She's afraid she'll forget how. "That's the amazing thing" I said, "you'll never forget."
